MUARA, Thursday, 28 November 2019 - The Royal Brunei Navy ship, KDB DARUSSALAM apprehended a foreign fishing trawler conducting illegal fishing activities in Brunei Darussalam's waters. The fishing trawler was first sighted on the morning of Tuesday, 26 November 2019. 

A total of six ships' crew were found onboard the fishing trawler and are of Vietnamese nationality. The fishing trawler and the crew members were handed over to the Marine Police Royal Brunei Police Force for further investigation with the presence of representatives from the Fisheries Department.

The apprehension of this foreign fishing trawler by relevant security agencies serves as a warning and deterrence against the conduct of illegal fishing activities in Brunei waters. At the same time, the incident reflects the joint efforts by local maritime agencies in ensuring the maritime sovereignty of Brunei waters is safeguarded. Local fishing communities are encouraged to assist relevant agencies upon the sighting of any illegal fishing activities conducted in Brunei waters and to report immediately to the National Maritime Coordination Centre (NMCC) on their hotline +6732 2233751.
