SAN DIEGO, Friday 19 July 2019 –
The Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for EXERCISE RIM OF THE PACIFIC (RIMPAC) 2020 was successfully conducted from Tuesday, 16 July until Friday, 19 July 2019. The IPC was hosted by The US Third Fleet, US Navy and conducted at Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, United States of America (US).
The theme of next year's exercise will be 'Capable and Adaptive Partners'. The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) delegations comprised of four officers lead by Commander Edy Jofren bin PDP DP Hj Abdul Jalil, Commanding Officer KDB DARULEHSAN. Present during the officiating and closing of the IPC was Rear Admiral Darren Hansen, Deputy Commander US Third Fleet as EX RIMPAC 2020 Director.
Next year's EX RIMPAC is planned to be a complex and high intensity warfare exercise that will include elements of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Amphibious Operations. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted in June 2020 at Hawaii and is currently participated by 37 navies. The RBN sent KDB DARUSSALAM and KDB DARULAMAN to participate EX RIMPAC in 2014. Next year's involvement in the exercise will ensure RBN's dedication in forging multilateral and further enhancing development and capacity building.
