Captain Norshahrinizam bin Haji Talib, RBN currently holds the Fleet Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and assumed the position on 1st July 2019. Captain Norshahrinizam joined the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) on 12 September 1988. He joined RBN on 28 December 1989 as Officer Under Training. He was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade in 1992, Lieutenant in 1996, Lieutenant Commander in 2000, Commander in 2011 and Captain in 2018.
During his service, he held numerous command appointments such as Commanding Officer of Royal Brunei Malay Reserve Regiment, Bolkiah Garrison Commander and Commanding Officer of Royal Brunei Armed Forced Military Police from 2011 to 2013. In the fleet, he also commanded KDB PERWIRA in 2004 and KDB PEJUANG in 2005. In early years of RBN, he served mostly onboard Missile Gun Boat and Coastal Patrol Craft where he held appointments such as Navigation Officer, Gunnery Officer and Senior Executive Officer.
Before assuming his present appointment, he was the Commandant Support Services of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), a position he assumed on 01 July 2017. He was also the Defence Advisor in Malaysia from 2013 to 2017. His other staff appointment includes Staff Officer 1 Joint Planning, Staff Officer 1 Joint Operations (Navy) at Joint Force Headquarters, Minister of Defence (MINDEF) in 2009, Staff Officer 2 Inspectorate Operation at RBN Headquarters (HQ) in 2008, Staff Officer 3 Intelligence and Security in 2006, Staff Officer Communication and Staff Officer Grade 2 Personnel & Administration in 2003.
Captain Norshahrinizam has attended various naval and professional courses including the Junior Officer Under Training (JOUT), Junior Naval Command Course, Standard and Advance NBCD (Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence) in Australia (1990-1991), Naval Junior Officers Course (NJOC) Singapore in 1996, Basic Intelligence Officers Course (1997) , Bridge Resource Management (2004), Australian Maritime Air Surveillance Course in 1998 and Principal Warfare Officers (A) Course in United Kingdom in 2000. He also attended his Naval Staff Course at Pakistan Naval War College and graduated with a Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science in Maritime War Studies in 2008. He also attended the Executive Development Program (Kings College) in 2012.
He is married to Pengiran Noor Alawati binti Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman and blessed with 3 sons and 3 daughters. He also enjoys reading and playing golf.
